I am working on making my own bo staff, but I need help with two specific areas.  The first … I am working on making my own bo staff, but I need help with two specific areas.  The first is helping me select the wood I need to make my staff. I live in a fairly wooded area, and I am hoping that I have an oak sapling that may serve my purposes well. Otherwise, if you know of an area I can find and cut a single wooden sapling, I would also greatly appreciate it.  The second thing is someone who has experience working with raw wood. I have made a few bo staves with unfinished wood from Menards before, but never started from an actual sapling. I would love to work with someone with experience to get me started so that I can make a staff that will help me continue my martial arts and meditation practices for years to come.  This is an odd request, but I think it is important for me to have a staff that I can work with for years. I know I could buy one, but I believe that making my own will help me connect with it more and trust it more while I continue my practice.  The specifications I was given for a great staff is - Hardwood, such as oak - 1-2lbs - About my height (for me, 5'1"-5'5" would be ideal) - Around 1"-1.25" diameter - Straightened with very few knots or imperfections. (This is where I know I will need additional expertise) - Treated (I typically use mineral oil once a day for about a week, but would also love any insight on other ways to treat wood)   This may be difficult to find, but I am hopeful, so if anyone knows where I could look that may have oak saplings or other hardwood saplings that may work. I understand this may be a multi-day, multi-person job, but I am willing to offer snacks, meals, and time credits in order to complete this next step in my martial arts journey. I also understand that this may not be possible until after social distancing measures are lifted, but wanted to get the word out now to hopefully gain some interest.   Thank you Pat for allowing me to utilize two of your saplings to continue my art. I greatly appreciate it!

(Can be found in ads on FB)  I will need someone to assemble it for me. I’m sure it will be missing nuts and bolts here and there so I need someone flexible enough to run to Ace Hardware for those needs.  You will need to bring your own tools.  I’m not someone who can exchange for anything physical, but I can cook and bake up a storm!  I’m willing to create full dinners for 2-4 people in exchange. Deserts also!   We can negotiate how many after you preview the garden box and can estimate your time.

I have the tarp and expect to do all of the work. I need a truck with or without a driver. I have a drivers license. Three trips is likely the best for now, so since the distance between the two spots is probably 5 miles, that would equal 30 miles total. Will work with your schedule. I’m just looking forward to getting it done as quickly as possible even if it is just 3 February today. It is not frozen soil. Lets talk.
